Frequently Asked Questions
What the app is, what it runs on, and what to expect the first time you open it.
One app for Lightchain: peer-to-peer chat rooms, a wallet across six chains, paid AI answers from models on the Lightchain network, and the tools to run a worker or validator. It talks to other people directly, with no account and no central server holding your messages.
The app is free and open source. Asking a model is paid in LCAI per answer, at the price shown beside each model. Chat, the wallet and everything else cost nothing beyond normal network fees.
Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit), and Macs with Apple Silicon (M1 and newer). Intel Macs and Linux are not offered as downloads yet.
This beta is not yet code-signed, so Windows and macOS cannot name the publisher. On Windows choose More info, then Run anyway. On macOS open System Settings, Privacy & Security, then Open Anyway. You only need to do this once.
On your computer, encrypted with the password you choose. When you create the wallet the app shows a twelve-word recovery phrase once - write it down, because it is the only way to restore the wallet and nobody can recover it for you.
Not to chat or hold a wallet. To ask a model you need LCAI in the wallet, then a small top-up of your AI credit from the Account page - the app walks you through it.
Yes, on a machine with Docker, Ollama and a suitable GPU. The For Workers page checks your machine, the models it can serve and your stake before anything starts, and the worker keeps running in the background when the app is closed.
Lightchain Desktop is in beta, so tell us on Discord (discord.gg/lightchain): what you were doing, what you expected and what happened. The app can export a diagnostics file from Settings that helps us find the cause - it never contains your keys, recovery phrase or messages.
Download the newest version from this page and install it over the old one. Your wallet, rooms and settings stay where they are.
